Criteria
The South North Network (SN2) is an open network, but certain criteria need to be fulfilled to become a member. The organisation/university/institute interested in joining has to:

1. participate actively in the network, by contributing ideas, research, joint activities, exchange information;
2. have a track record of serious work on trade and development;
3. provide, foster, be involved in policy relevant work;
4. have English as a working language (given budget limitation - although the network hopes to include Francophone and lusophone institutions soon);
5. be based in, or work on, Africa.

Joint research
Joint research that will appear under the SN2 label will have to go through a flexible peer review mechansim to ensure high quality standards.

Other types of membership
The SN2 favours institutional membership, but will accept affiliates, who will be associated to the network because of their personal contribution, expertise and commitment. In addition there are the 'friends of SN2'', such as the World Bank Institute, which cannot become member for institutional reasons, but will be closely associated, support and participate actively in the network.
